2026 BMW 7 Series Review: Luxury with a Different Perspective

Luxury sedans may be losing ground to SUVs, but the BMW 7 Series continues to make a strong case for the traditional limousine. Its latest facelift brings sharper styling, a redesigned digital cabin and improved comfort, while retaining its distinct identity against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

We drove the all-electric BMW i7 50 to see what has changed.

Sharper Looks, Familiar Silhouette

The 7 Series retains its three-box design but gets a squarer stance, a revised kidney grille and crystal-effect split lighting. New 20-inch alloy wheels and extended tail-lamp elements add subtle changes, while dual-tone paint options offer plenty of personalisation.

A Digital Cabin

The biggest update is inside, where a panoramic display replaces the conventional instrument cluster. It is joined by a central infotainment screen and a passenger display, running BMW’s latest iDrive interface.

Other highlights include:

  • Two-spoke steering wheel with haptic controls
  • Ventilated front seats with massage functions
  • Nappa leather upholstery and crystal detailing
  • Bowers & Wilkins sound system

Moving several functions, including headlight controls, into the touchscreen may take some getting used to.

Rear-Seat Comfort Takes Priority

Rear passengers get touchscreen controls on both doors, electrically adjustable seats and a business-class-style relaxation mode. The front passenger seat moves forward while the rear seat reclines, with a calf support and footrest completing the arrangement.

A large theatre screen and powered blinds add to the experience. However, deploying the screen can obstruct the driver’s rear-view mirror.

Quiet and Effortless on the Road

The i7 50 uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup producing 455hp and 600Nm. BMW claims a range of up to 728km under the WLTP cycle.

During our drive, the indicated range suggested around 500km could be achievable from a 75 per cent charge. Cabin insulation is impressive, keeping rain and traffic noise well controlled. The suspension prioritises comfort but feels firmer and more composed than the S-Class over smaller undulations.

Verdict

The BMW 7 Series delivers a distinctive blend of technology, road presence and comfort. While the S-Class offers a softer, lounge-like experience, the BMW feels more structured without sacrificing luxury. It doesn’t imitate its rival; it does things its own way.
