After a break in 2023, the Jeep Cherokee is back for 2026 with a brand-new design, more space, and a hybrid powertrain as standard. The new Cherokee is larger than before, offers more technology, and aims to stand out in the crowded SUV market.
Hybrid Powertrain Only (For Now):
The 2026 Cherokee launches with a new 350-volt hybrid system from Stellantis. It uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a small battery. There’s no plug-in charging; the battery charges through the engine and regenerative braking. The system makes 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque, giving the Cherokee over 500 miles of range and 37 mpg combined. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds.
Bigger and More Practical:
Built on the STLA Large platform, the new Cherokee is 188.1 inches long and has a wheelbase that’s six inches longer than before. This means 30% more cargo space. The SUV also has best-in-class approach and departure angles, 8 inches of ground clearance, and four drive modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Mud/Sand.
Design and Features:
The 2026 Cherokee has a boxy, simple look inspired by the classic XJ model, with U-shaped LED daytime running lights and a sharp rear design. Inside, the cabin is modern and luxury-focused, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen running Uconnect 5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and a rotary gear selector frees up space in the center console.
Safety and Tech:
Every Cherokee comes with rain-sensing wipers, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear-park assist, and Level 2 Active Driving Assist. Optional features include a 360-degree camera, heated and ventilated seats, a dual-pane sunroof, and a power liftgate.
Pricing and Availability:
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee will go on sale later this year. The entry-level model starts at $38,990, the Laredo at $41,990, the Limited at $44,490, and the top Overland trim at $47,990 (all prices include destination charge). The Limited and Overland will arrive first, with other trims following in early 2026.
