Kawasaki has expanded its 2027 KLE500 lineup with a new SE SmartRide variant, introducing a mechanical centrifugal clutch to its middleweight adventure motorcycle. The system allows riders to start moving and come to a stop without using the clutch lever, although manual clutch operation is still required for gear changes while riding.
The KLE500 range now includes three variants: the standard KLE500, KLE500 SE and the new KLE500 SE SmartRide.
Unlike Honda’s E-Clutch system, which uses an electromechanical actuator to operate the clutch, Kawasaki’s SmartRide system relies on a mechanical centrifugal clutch to simplify low-speed riding.
The SE SmartRide also gets tubeless tyres, replacing the tube-type setup found on the standard SE. Apart from these additions, the motorcycle retains the same hardware as the regular SE.
Power comes from a 451cc parallel-twin engine producing 45hp at 9,000rpm and 42.6Nm at 6,000rpm.
The SE SmartRide is available in a single colour option, Pearl Blizzard White.
If introduced as a completely built-up unit (CBU), the KLE500 could carry premium pricing. It would enter a growing sub-500cc adventure motorcycle segment, where upcoming models such as the Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 and Norton Atlas could also compete.

The KLE500 SE SmartRide focuses on making everyday riding easier rather than adding more power or changing the motorcycle’s character. Its mechanical centrifugal clutch could be useful in traffic and during slow-speed manoeuvres, while tubeless tyres add another practical advantage.
Its prospects in India will depend heavily on pricing and availability. With no official launch details yet, the KLE500 remains an interesting addition to Kawasaki’s adventure lineup rather than a confirmed new option for Indian buyers.
