New Delhi: Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body of the automobile industry, organised the 6th Inter-School Competition on ‘Road Safety’. The event was done in collaboration with Gyan Mandir Public School, Naraina Vihar, New Delhi. The three-day long competition on Road Safety witnessed students participating in multitude of activities which aimed at sensitising them to the issues pertaining to ‘Safe Mobility’. The program was developed with the purpose of inculcating a sense of responsibility in children towards contributing towards making Indian roads safer for everyone.
The program which started from 11th December, 2019 (Wednesday) culminated on 13th December, 2019 (Friday). During the course of these three days, various competitions were organised which centred on the theme of road safety and safe mobility. Pre-school students to 12th class students, all classes were engaged through various activities.
On the first day, fifteen activities were organised in which students participated either individually or in teams. Some of the competitions were ‘Design a Mask’, ‘Rap Song’, ‘Stamp Designing’, ‘Jute Bag designing’, ‘Street Art/Graffiti’, ‘Canvas Painting’, among others. Finally, the day concluded with ‘Ted Talks’ on ‘Speak up, Save Lives’ by students from 5th to 12th standard.
On the second day, only students from Pre-school to 4th standard were allowed to participate in various activities. Some of the activities are ‘Fancy Dress’, ‘Puppet Dramatization’, ‘Best out of Waste’, ‘Stand-up Comedy’, etc. The third, and final day of the program, had four activities scheduled- ‘Mono Act’, ‘Mime’, ‘Innovative Exhibit’ and, lastly ‘Salad Making’.
Apart from this, many online competitions such as ‘E-Poster making’, ‘Jingle’, Logo Designing’, ‘Presentation on road safety’, ‘Video Song Recording’, ‘Brochure Designing’, ‘Movie Making’, ‘Photography’, etc. were also organised. A special team from Traffic Police Chandigarh was also invited to address the participating students and teachers.
“Road safety is a critical issue which must be addressed by active participation of all stakeholders. The children are the future of our country and it is essential to instil in them the important of road safety as well as the essential role they will play in making mobility safe for the society as well as their own selves. This sensitising activity combines learning with play so that the critical aspects of road safety education can be more readily absorbed by the children. Their support has been paramount in the successful planning and execution of the program, that has witnessed such an enthusiastic participation from children from so many different schools,” stated Mr Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM.
