ZF, a global leader in driveline and chassis technology, has started producing its Electric Park Brake (EPB) system in India. This marks the first time ZF’s EPB is being made for a passenger vehicle in the country. The system is being used in a newly launched all-electric vehicle from a leading Indian carmaker, showing ZF’s commitment to e-mobility and innovation in the Indian passenger car market.

The launch of EPB production in India supports the country’s move towards electric vehicles, improved safety, and advanced automotive technology. It also fits with ZF’s “Make in India for India and the World” strategy.

ZF’s EPB system offers top performance with low drag and reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), which helps improve fuel efficiency. The EPB is a big step in electrifying mechanical systems and, when combined with other vehicle systems, enables advanced features.

The EPB improves driver safety by allowing two-wheel anti-lock emergency stops and easy activation with the push of a button. It is fully integrated into the brake system, offering dynamic actuation and brake pad wear sensing, while reducing the wear and tear seen in traditional mechanical systems.

The modular design of the EPB allows it to be used in different types of vehicles, from passenger cars to light commercial vehicles and trucks. This gives Indian carmakers more flexibility and performance options in their vehicle designs.

Akash Passey, President of ZF Group in India, said, “Starting production of ZF’s first Electric Park Brake in India, especially on a new EV platform, shows our commitment to providing top mobility solutions for local needs. With advanced systems like the EPB, we are making vehicles safer and better, and helping Indian automakers deliver world-class products.”

ZF is a leader in braking technology, offering a range of park brake solutions from integrated park brakes to full EPB systems. The company has more than 250 million EPB calipers on roads worldwide and provides a wide range of electronically controlled steering, brakes, and damping systems for modern vehicles.

By producing the EPB system in India, ZF is strengthening its presence in the country and bringing global technology to India’s growing automotive market.
