Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that 33% of its customers have signed up for the premium Digital Key feature, showing that more people in India want smart, tech-driven convenience in their cars.

Launched in September 2024 with the Hyundai ALCAZAR and later added to the Hyundai CRETA Electric in January 2025, the Digital Key has quickly become popular. This feature lets users create a virtual key on their smartphone, smartwatch, or a special NFC card, so they don’t need to carry a physical car key. With a simple tap on the car’s door handle, users can lock or unlock the car, and by placing the device on the wireless charging pad, they can start the engine.

A big plus is that users can share their Digital Key with up to three people or seven devices, making it easy for family and friends to access the car. In fact, 35% of Digital Key users are already sharing access, showing how useful and flexible the feature is.

Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, said, “At Hyundai, we focus on innovation that makes life easier for our customers. The strong response to Digital Key proves that Indian buyers value technology that adds real convenience to their daily lives.”

How Does Hyundai’s Digital Key Work?

  • Users set up a virtual key using the Hyundai Bluelink app on their phone, smartwatch, or NFC card.
  • Tap the device on the car’s door handle to lock or unlock.
  • Place the device on the wireless charging pad to start the car.
