Tata Motors has officially launched the updated version of its sub-compact SUV, the Tata Punch. First introduced in 2021, the vehicle has been a significant volume driver for the company, becoming the highest-selling car in India for the 2024 calendar year. The 2026 refresh introduces a new turbocharged petrol engine, a first-in-segment AMT gearbox for CNG variants, and a revised feature list across its “Persona” lineup.

The New Punch enters the market with an introductory starting price of ₹5.59 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powertrain and Performance: The iTurbo Arrival

The most notable mechanical update is the introduction of the 1.2L Turbocharged iTurbo Revotron engine. This unit significantly increases the Punch’s performance capabilities compared to its naturally aspirated predecessor.

In a move to capture the growing demand for automatic-equipped CNG vehicles, Tata has launched the iCNG with an AMT gearbox. This utilizes Tata’s established twin-cylinder technology, which positions the CNG tanks under the luggage area to preserve 210 litres of usable boot space.

Exterior and Dimension Changes

The 2026 model has grown in length by 49mm, bringing it to a total length of 3,876mm, while the wheelbase remains at 2,445mm. Exterior updates include a redesigned 3D front grille, a “Bull Guard” bumper, and new “Powersight” LED headlamps. At the rear, the vehicle receives “Infinity Glow” LED tail lamps and a new granite black spoiler. The SUV sits on updated “TrailCrest” R16 alloy wheels and maintains a 90-degree door opening for easier entry and exit.

Interior and Technology Upgrades

The cabin has been revised with a more driver-focused cockpit and updated materials. A new 10.25-inch (26.03 cm) Ultra View HD infotainment system is the centrepiece of the dashboard, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Key interior features include:

  • Instrumentation: A 7-inch (17.78 cm) digital cluster.
  • Convenience: Wireless smartphone charger, 65W Type-C fast charger, and an air purifier.
  • Comfort: Executive Lounge seats with extended thigh support, rear AC vents, and a voice-assisted electric sunroof.
  • Connectivity: iRA 2.0 telematics with over 50 connected car features and SOS calling functions.

Safety Standards

The Tata Punch continues to emphasize safety, built on the Alfa-Arc architecture. It has earned a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP (B-NCAP). Standard safety equipment across the range now includes six airbags and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP). High-spec models add a 360-degree HD surround-view system with a blind-spot monitor and an Indirect Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (iTPMS).
