Renault India has officially pulled the wraps off the second-generation Duster, marking the return of the nameplate that pioneered the mid-size SUV segment in India. Built on the new Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), the 2026 Duster is highly localised, with 90% of its components developed specifically for the Indian market.
Powertrain: High-Output Turbo and Strong Hybrid Debut
Renault has introduced three distinct powertrain options for the Indian market, focusing on a mix of high performance and fuel efficiency.
- Turbo TCe 160: This variant features a new turbocharged GDi engine producing a segment-leading 160.77 hp and 280 Nm of torque. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Wet Clutch DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission), designed to handle high torque loads in Indian stop-and-go traffic.
- Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160: Marking a first for Renault in India, this system pairs a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine with a 1.4 kWh battery. Renault claims the system can operate in electric-only (EV) mode for up to 80% of city driving cycles. Power and torque figures are not revealed yet.
- Turbo TCe 100: Positioned as the entry-level turbocharged option, this unit is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and puts out 100 hp and 160 Nm.
Chassis and Off-Road Capability
The 2026 Duster maintains its predecessor’s emphasis on rough-road dynamics. The RGMP architecture has been tested over 1 million kilometres in extreme climates ranging from -23°C to 55°C.
Key off-road specifications include:
- Ground Clearance: 212 mm.
- Approach/Departure Angles: 26.9° and 34.7° respectively.
- Dimensions: Length of 4,346 mm and a wheelbase of 2,657 mm.
- Suspension: Tuned specifically for “Altitude Master” performance, tested up to 18,379 ft above sea level.
Interior and Technology: Google Integration
The cabin has undergone a complete overhaul, moving toward a driver-centric “fighter-jet” cockpit layout. The most significant tech addition is the 25.65 cm (10.1”) OpenR Link multimedia system which features Google built-in. This allows for native Google Maps, Assistant, and access to the Play Store without requiring a smartphone connection. Renault has also confirmed that the Google Assistant will receive a Gemini AI upgrade in the future.
Secondary tech features include a 26.03 cm (10.25”) digital driver display with map replication, dual-zone climate control, ventilated 6-way electric seats, and an electric panoramic sunroof.
Safety and Reliability
Renault has engineered the new Duster to meet 5-star safety standards. The vehicle comes equipped with 35 standard safety features, including 17 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) functions such as Hill Descent Control.
To address long-term ownership concerns, Renault is launching the “Renault Forever” program, offering a 7-year or 150,000 km warranty, which is currently among the highest in the mid-size SUV segment.
Pre-bookings and Delivery Timeline
