Royal Enfield has officially entered the 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship, marking the first time the brand has competed in the global flat track racing series.
For its debut, Royal Enfield introduced the new Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2, a purpose-built race machine based on the company’s new Sherpa 450 platform.
Built Specifically for Racing
Unlike standard road-going bikes, the Sherpa FT MK2 has been heavily modified for flat-track racing.
Changes include:
- New lightweight bodywork
- Redesigned fuel tank
- Flat track number boards
- New exhaust system
- Alloy wheels instead of wire-spoke wheels
The motorcycle also loses several road-focused components for weight reduction, including:
- Headlight setup
- Front brake disc assembly
- ABS hardware
- Extra body panels
The bike even appears to feature:
- Carbon fibre body parts
- Carbon fibre swingarm components
Based on the Himalayan 450’s Engine
The Sherpa FT Mk2 uses the same 452 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450.
However, the race bike is expected to produce more power and sharper performance compared to the road-going versions. The company has not yet revealed official output figures.
Royal Enfield Expanding the Sherpa Platform
The Sherpa 450 platform is becoming increasingly important for Royal Enfield.
Apart from the Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450, the company is reportedly developing more motorcycles, including:
- Scram 450
- Continental GT-R 450
Reports also suggest Royal Enfield may eventually consider a production-inspired flat tracker based on this race bike.
