Volkswagen has officially revealed the all-new Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI, and this is a huge moment for the brand.

For the first time in the GTI’s 50-year history, Volkswagen has created a fully electric GTI hatchback. And honestly, Volkswagen seems determined to make sure this still feels like a proper GTI despite losing the petrol engine.
226 hp and 0-100 km/ph in 6.8 seconds
The ID. Polo GTI produces 226 hp and 290 Nm torque through a front-wheel-drive setup.
Volkswagen claims the electric hatchback can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 175 km/h.
Volkswagen Wants It to Feel Like a Real GTI
The company says the ID. Polo GTI is not just another fast EV.
The company has equipped it with:
- Electronic front differential lock
- Adaptive DCC suspension
- Dedicated GTI driving mode
as standard.
Pressing the GTI mode button changes:
- Suspension setup
- Steering response
- Graphics inside the cockpit
- Overall driving character
to make the car feel more aggressive and sporty.
Classic GTI Design Still Remains
Even though it is electric, Volkswagen has clearly tried to preserve classic GTI styling cues.

Highlights include:
- Signature red stripe across the front
- Illuminated VW badge
- Honeycomb bumper design
- 19-inch alloy wheels
- Split roof spoiler
- Sporty rear diffuser
Volkswagen says the proportions were inspired by the original Volkswagen Golf GTI from 1976.
Retro-Inspired Interior
Inside, the ID. Polo GTI mixes modern tech with nostalgic GTI details.

The cabin gets:
- Red stitching
- GTI sports seats
- Tartan-style upholstery
- Red steering wheel marker inspired by motorsport
One of the coolest features is the retro display mode, which transforms the digital screens to resemble older Volkswagen dashboards from the late Golf Mk1 era.
Volkswagen even recreated old-school cassette tape graphics inside the infotainment system.
Bigger Inside Than Before
Volkswagen says the electric platform has actually improved interior space compared to the older petrol Polo GTI.
The ID. Polo GTI now offers 441 litres of boot space, which is significantly larger than before.
Fold the rear seats down, and the capacity increases to 1,240 litres.
Battery, Charging, and Range
The electric GTI uses a 52kWh battery pack, and Volkswagen claims up to 424 km WLTP range.
The hatchback also supports 105 kW DC fast charging,
allowing the battery to charge from 10-80% in around 24 minutes.
Some Surprisingly Premium Features
Volkswagen is also offering features rarely seen in this segment, including:
- Harman Kardon sound system
- Panoramic glass roof
- 12-way adjustable massage seats
- Vehicle-to-Load charging capability
Smarter Driver Assistance
The new ID. Polo GTI also gets Volkswagen’s latest connected Travel Assist system, which can now:
- Detect traffic lights
- Automatically stop for red signals
- Support one-pedal driving

Conclusion
The Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI feels like Volkswagen trying to prove that the GTI spirit can survive in the electric era. Yes, it loses the petrol engine and the traditional exhaust sound, but Volkswagen has clearly worked hard to make this EV feel playful, sporty, and unmistakably GTI at heart.
