The next-generation Range Rover Velar is set for a dramatic transformation. Expected to debut within the next six months, the SUV will return as a sleek electric crossover aimed squarely at rivals like the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, and Volvo EX60, while a hybrid version has also been confirmed.

A Fresh Direction for Velar
Unlike the current Velar, the new model will feature a lower, coupe-inspired silhouette with a more saloon-like profile. Spy prototypes suggest a sharply raked roofline, muscular rear haunches, and even the possibility of replacing the conventional rear window with a digital camera system.
The bold design is expected to distinguish the new model from the rest of the Range Rover family while improving aerodynamic efficiency.
New Platform, Multiple Powertrains
The new crossover will be the first model to use JLR’s EMA platform, which was originally developed as an EV-only architecture but will now support both electric and hybrid powertrains.
Expected highlights include:
- Fully electric version at launch
- Hybrid variant to follow
- 800V electrical architecture
- Fast-charging capability
- Long-range battery expected to rival premium German EVs
JLR has also confirmed that the new hybrid system will be an all-new addition to its powertrain portfolio.
Built for the Premium EV Fight
The upcoming Velar replacement will play a key role in JLR’s next phase of electrification, sitting below the electric Range Rover and targeting higher-volume sales.
Production will take place at Halewood in the UK, with battery packs supplied by Tata-owned Agratas’ upcoming battery plant.

Final Take
The current Velar remains one of the most elegant SUVs on sale, so giving its successor a more radical, coupe-like identity is certainly a bold move. If JLR can match that striking design with a competitive range, fast charging and the refinement expected from a Range Rover, this could become one of the brand’s most important EVs yet.
