Kia India has unveiled the Syros EV, its second mass-market electric SUV for the Indian market. The new electric SUV promises an ARAI-certified range of up to 526km, making it the first model in its segment to cross the 500km mark. Pre-bookings have opened for Rs 25,000, with deliveries expected to begin later.

Two battery options on offer

The Syros EV is available with two battery packs:

  • 51.4kWh battery – 526km claimed ARAI (MIDC Full) range
  • 42kWh battery – 443km claimed ARAI (MIDC Full) range

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 168 hp, allowing the larger battery version to sprint from 0-100kph in 8.1 seconds.

Kia also claims a 10-80 percent DC fast charge in just 39 minutes using a 100kW charger. Other EV-specific features include battery conditioning, regenerative braking paddles with Auto Mode and i-Pedal, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Digital Key, Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) and a column-mounted shift-by-wire selector.

Kia focuses on ownership confidence

Along with the car itself, Kia is introducing several ownership benefits aimed at first-time EV buyers.

These include:

  • Lifetime high-voltage battery warranty
  • Assured Buyback programme
  • Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing option
  • K-Charge platform with access to over 20,300 charging points across 23 charging operators
  • 129+ Kia dealerships with DC fast chargers
  • 275+ EV-ready workshops across India

Packed with technology

The Syros EV carries over the upright styling of the standard Syros but gets EV-specific touches such as Kia’s Digital Tiger Face, Star Map LED lighting, and aero alloy wheels.

Inside, it features a 30-inch Trinity Panoramic Display combining:

  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment
  • 5-inch climate control display
  • Other highlights include:
  • Harman Kardon 8-speaker audio system
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • OTA software updates
  • Dual-pane panoramic sunroof
  • Ventilated front and rear seats
  • 4-way powered driver’s seat
  • Smart dashcam
  • 100W USB-C charging port
  • 16-litre front trunk (frunk)

Safety

Safety is another major focus, with the Syros EV offering Level 2 ADAS featuring 16 autonomous safety functions.

Other safety equipment includes:

  • Six airbags
  • 360-degree camera
  • Blind View Monitor
  • Front, rear, and side parking sensors
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts
  • All-wheel disc brakes with Electronic Parking Brake

Final Take

The Syros EV looks like Kia’s most serious attempt yet at taking on the growing electric SUV segment. A claimed 526km range, fast charging and a comprehensive ownership package address some of the biggest concerns around EV ownership. If Kia manages to price it competitively, the Syros EV could become one of the strongest options in the mass-market electric SUV space.
