Pedro Acosta claimed his maiden MotoGP race victory at the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix, delivering a home win for KTM at the Red Bull Ring. The Spaniard held off Jorge Martin by 1.017 seconds, with Marco Bezzecchi completing the podium in third for Aprilia.
Acosta’s victory comes a day after he crashed out of Saturday’s sprint, ending a wait of 15 podium finishes for his first premier-class win. It also marks KTM’s first MotoGP victory in 1,449 days.
Acosta Battles Back to Take the Lead
Martin led off pole position, while Bezzecchi and Ai Ogura helped Aprilia establish an early 1-2-3. Acosta dropped to fifth at the start but quickly recovered, passing Marc Marquez and Ogura to move into third.
By Lap 4, Acosta had overtaken Bezzecchi for second before closing in on Martin. He made the decisive move on Lap 9 and held the lead despite sustained pressure from the Aprilia rider.
Martin finished 1.017 seconds behind, with Bezzecchi a further two-tenths back.
Marquez Finishes Fifth
Marc Marquez finished fifth after battling brake issues, while Ogura secured fourth. KTM’s Brad Binder took sixth, ahead of Francesco Bagnaia.
Fermin Aldeguer finished eighth after a three-second penalty, with Fabio Di Giannantonio and Johann Zarco completing the top 10.
Championship Standings
Martin’s second-place finish gives him a 12-point lead over Marquez, with the pair entering the weekend level on points. Aprilia also leads Ducati by 10 points in the constructors’ standings.
