JSW Group has unveiled Ampstar, a new electric commercial vehicle brand under JSW Greentech. The brand will focus on electric trucks and buses, with a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer and an electric bus serving as its first showcased products.
Beyond manufacturing vehicles, Ampstar plans to offer charging infrastructure, financing and after-sales support. Buyers will have three ownership options: outright purchase, leasing, and Battery as a Service (BaaS). The upcoming range will feature power configurations from 201hp to 670hp.
New Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra
Ampstar vehicles will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s 90-acre facility in AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant is planned to have an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric trucks and buses.
The facility will feature a dedicated bus treatment and coating line, an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery facility.
Buses and Trucks for Different Applications
The electric bus lineup will cover lengths from 7 metres to 18 metres, targeting school transport, staff shuttles, city services and intercity operations.
The truck range will initially include the 55-tonne tractor-trailer, with tippers and fixed-body dumpers planned for a later stage.
The brand says it has developed the core software, control logic and algorithms for its electric drivetrains in-house. The vehicles will also feature a double-cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis, both designed to suit Indian operating conditions.

Final Take
Ampstar’s entry adds another player to India’s growing electric commercial vehicle market, with a product strategy that covers both heavy-duty trucks and buses. Its plans to combine vehicles with charging, financing, and battery services could make the shift to electric fleets easier for operators. Pricing, detailed specifications, and launch timelines, however, remain unannounced.
