Chennai, The Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2018 has now moved into the second half of the season. Kolapur’s Dhruv Mohite clinched yet another pole position as he set the fastest lap time of 1 min 54. 959 sec around the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) where the Round 3 of the Cup is being hosted. Starting next to him from the front row for the first race of the weekend tomorrow will be Mumbai’s Saurav Bandyopadhyay. Pune’s Pratik Sonawane put up a good show to clinch the third spot on the grid.
Hyderabad’s Jeet Jhabakh started the weekend on a very positive note as he went fastest in the two opening Free Practice sessions of the weekend. However, he couldn’t maintain his top spot in the Qualifying and had to settle for the fourth place on the grid. As the Ameo Cup moves into the second half of the season, the battles are expected to intensify even more. Top three drivers in the championship table are separated with a mere 16 point difference. These three drivers have also posted fastest lap times that are within a second of each other in today’s Qualifying session. Each one of them will be fighting for every crucial point in the three races over the next two days.
Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India commented, “It is always exciting to see top drivers putting in such tight lap times. All our cars are built identical and have exact same performance. Therefore, it boils down to the drivers’ skills in the end and when you see such a close competition amongst them, you are sure that the series is moving in the right, competitive direction.”
MMRT will play host to three races over the next two days as a part of the Round 3 of the Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2018 season.
