BMW officially revealed new i8 Roadster and Coupe after a long two month teaser session. We will talk about common things first then move on new Roadster model. Both model get new wider kidney grill with updated LED headlights and hood is more angular at front. BMW also introduce new set of alloywheels and exterior colour options. The interior changes are limited to new 8 inch i-drive system, new multi-information display in instrument cluster and new trim options.
Now lets talk about i8 Roadster. BMW has given fabric roof system for i8 Roadster to keep the weight down. The roof can be opened or closed in 16 second upto 49 sec. To keep the accuracy high, BMW has used 3D printing for aluminum connections. The fabric roof eats into boot space and engineers had to remove second row also but most of the customers won’t even use the second as space is limited.
BMW i8 Roadster and Coupe get updated three cylinder petrol engine producing 228 HP of power and 319 NM of torque along with 11.6 KW battery pack replacing 7.1 KW in earlier model producing 141 HP and 249 NM of torque. The combined output from both engines are 369 HP which helps i8 to hit 100 kph in 4.2 sec on coupe and 4.4 on Roadster while topspeed is limited to 249 Kph. The power is sent to all four wheels and the pure electric range extend to 28 kph. BMW i8 Roadster and Coupe will make its public debut at L.A Auto Show.
