Bridgestone India Launched Breast Cancer Screening Campaign for Rural Women on International Women’s Day
An Initiative under Bridgestone India’s Pink Valve Cap Campaign
On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8),
Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd, launched its Breast Cancer Screening and Awareness campaign at the
Primary health centre (PHC) Karanjvihire, Tal- Khed, Dist: Pune. The event was attended by over a
100 women from the surrounding rural community.
The event was an extension of Bridgestone India’s flagship initiative of Pink Valve Cap Campaign
conducted in October 2017 and was organised with the support of Rotary Club, Nigdi Pune. A
team of doctors and nursing staff from Ratna Memorial Hospital Pune participated as experts
during the camp, to provide all female patients a General body check-up, Breast check-up,
Cervical Cancer PAP smear test, Haemoglobin, Blood pressure and sugar test.
In addition, an awareness session with the 100+ beneficiaries along with distribution of free supply
of protein, iron and calcium health supplements was also done during the camp. This session
enabled participants to be aware of the causes, symptoms and preventive measures of this deadly
disease. A strong message to emphasize “Early Detection Saves Life” was delivered to the
community during the campaign.
With the aim of reaching out to the maximum number of women in the community, various
screening camps will be organised at all 11 health centres across Khed Taluka.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Suresh Dhekle, Medical Officer, Primary Health Center
Karanjvihire, Pune said, “Such initiatives by Bridgestone India in the direction of Rural Women
Health Care – Breast Cancer Prevention & Detection is highly appreciated and welcomed. We
were able to sensitize and support a sizeable population in Karanjvihire village. We would look
forward to more of such activities planned in surrounding villages as well.”
Rtn. Hemant Kulkarni, President, Rotary Club of Nigdi, Pune stated, “On the occasion of
International Women’s Day, a Cancer screening camp was organized at Karanjvihire. While it was
found beneficial for community, what was really touching was the way in which Bridgestone
involved itself to organize the camp and galvanised its resources. It was indeed a pleasure to be
associated with Bridgestone in this milestone project.”
