BYD is bringing its Denza premium sub-brand to the UK, aiming to take on top luxury automakers with a new lineup of high-end electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The brand made its first appearance in the country at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it showcased three upcoming models:
The Z9 GT will be the first to go on sale in the first quarter of 2026, followed by the D9 MPV, and then the powerful 677 bhp Denza B5 4×4 later that year. Buyers will have the option of electric or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains for some models.
BYD Vice President Stella Li confirmed that these models are just the beginning. More SUVs are being planned for the UK under the Denza name, including:
Li hinted that Denza may launch one new model every six months, as part of an aggressive push into the European premium market.
To underline Denza’s premium identity, it will have standalone dealerships that are completely separate from BYD’s existing showrooms. These new showrooms will feature modern, glass-heavy “crystal box” designs to reflect the brand’s upmarket positioning.
Li compared Denza to Audi and BYD to Volkswagen, emphasizing that Denza is not just a sub-brand but a distinct luxury offering.
