Daniel Ricciardo poles the second victory of the 2018 Formula One Championship by winning the Monaco Grand Prix. The victory put the Australian into third place for the driver’s championship with 72 points behind Vettel (96) and Lewis (110).
Daniel’s victory at the Circuit de Monte Carlo was exciting, despite a minor engine problem. He was comfortably ahead from the start of the race, while there was some problem with the energy recovery system for the majority of the race. Red Bull indicated the problem would not get better Daniel was able to maintain the lead and finishes the race by keeping Vettel and Lewis seconds behind him. Meanwhile, Raikkonen and Bottas fought for the fourth position and nearly closed their gap to third running Lewis Hamilton towards the closing minutes of the race. Kimi settled for his fourth and Bottas remained fifth stuck behind the Ferrari. However, Bottas was predicted as the dark horse after taking supersoft tyres on his only pit stop. Unfortunately, he couldn’t overtake Kimi on any of the laps.
On the other hand, Daniel’s teammate Max Verstappen finally managed to grab some points. Despite starting behind the pack, he finished 9th in Monaco. Force India’s Esteban Ocon scored at 6th ahead of Toro Rosso’s Gasly (7th) and Renault’s Hulkenberg (8th). However, Fernando Alonso has to retire from the race. The Spaniard stopped the car on Lap 53 as smoke starts to arise from the rear. Charles Leclerc of Sauber, who reported “no brakes” during the race, skated down the escape road with the front of his car deranged, while Hartley limped back to retire in the pits with a broken rear wing. That triggered a virtual safety car, but with so little time remaining the frontrunners did not risk pitting and the order remained the same, albeit with Vettel falling further back from Ricciardo.
