Ford Motor Company has set a new Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record with the Ford Mustang GTD Competition, clocking a time of 6:40.835.
This improves on the car’s earlier 6:52.072 lap and makes it the fastest time recorded by an American brand at the track, notoriously known as “The Green Hell”.
Ford Racing driver Dirk Müller set the new lap time.
The car now holds two of the fastest Nürburgring lap times for an American brand, including the Ford GT Mk IV.
Ford focused on four key areas to improve performance:
These changes helped reduce lap time significantly.
Ford says the GTD Competition directly benefits from its racing programme.
The development team focused on applying track learnings to a road-legal car, improving both performance and precision.
Ford credits its engineering team for the result.
Engineers, including Peter Kuechler, Sam Ashtiani, and Steve Thompson, worked on improving the car’s performance.
Steve Thompson also drove the car to a lap time of 6:49.337, faster than Muller’s earlier lap record.
Ford will offer the Mustang GTD Competition as a limited, street-legal model.
With this new lap time, Ford pushes the Mustang GTD further into supercar territory.
The focus remains on combining track performance with road usability, backed by motorsport development.
