The Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) is gearing up for its Season 2 Auction with a new “Rider Retention” rule. For the first time in Indian motorsport, franchise teams can keep up to two riders from their previous season’s squad—one per category—before the auction begins. This move adds a new layer of strategy to team building and makes the auction even more exciting.

Rider retention is common in top sports leagues around the world. Now, ISRL brings this system to Indian Supercross, showing the league’s growing status in global motorsport. With 155 riders from 23 countries registered for the Season 2 auction, teams can now hold on to their star performers while still bidding for new talent.

What Does Rider Retention Mean?

Each team can keep up to two riders (one per category) from last season. This forces teams to make tough choices and plan for both the present and the future, while keeping the league competitive.

  • BB Racing:
    Retained Jordy Tixier, last season’s All Stars category winner. The team will build a new squad around him, aiming for the title.
  • Mohite Racing:
    Chose not to retain any riders and will build a completely new team at the auction.
  • Reise Motorsports:
    Retained Thomas Remett, who finished third in the 450cc category last season. The team will focus on building around him.
  • BigRock Motorsports:
    The defending champions kept Thanarath Penjan (250cc India Asia champion) but did not retain Matt Moss or Reid Taylor.
  • Gujarat Trailblazers:
    Retained Enzo Polias (250cc international) and are looking to bring back Brian Giles, the junior category star.

With the auction coming up at the end of August, the new retention rule has made team strategies more interesting. Teams must now balance keeping proven talent with bringing in fresh faces, setting the stage for intense bidding and some of the best racing Indian motorsport has ever seen.
