Kia Sonet unveiled: Carries a very youthful appeal

The highly anticipated SUV from Kia Motors, the Kia Sonet, has been revealed globally. It first featured as a concept in the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Ever since it has been a model that is much talked about. Recently we got glimpses of what it would look like in the teasers revealed by Kia Motors. First impressions, it looks very stylish and could easily be one of the best looking cars in the segment. It is expected to compete against – the Vitara Brezza, Venue, Nexon, and the EcoSport. After the Seltos and the Carnival, the Sonet is the third car released by Kia Motors in India.

Feature-wise the Sonet will come with – 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and live traffic, Air Purifier, Bose seven-speaker audio system with sub-woofer, Ventilated driver and front-passenger seats, LED Sound Mood Lighting, Remote engine start for automatic and manual transmission via UVO Connect and Smart Key, Over-the-air (OTA) map updates, Multi-drive & traction modes and grip control for automatic models, Wireless smartphone charger with cooling function.

It will also come with – six airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), HAC (Hill-start Assist Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) and BA (brake assist), Front and rear parking sensors, Projector fog lamps, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Auto headlamps, ISOFIX child-seat anchoring points.

The Sonet is expected to be launched in the upcoming festive season. It will be in the highly competitive B-segment. The Kia Sonet will come in three engine options, the two petrol engines on offer will be Smartstream 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder engine, and the 1.0-liter T-GDi turbocharged engine. The Diesel on offer is a 1.5 liter CRDi engine. There will be 5 transmissions on offer – 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT, 6 speed AMT, and the new Smartstream 6-speed iMT.

The Sonet has a lot of road presence, thanks to its bold design. It comes with heartbeat LED DRL’s with integrated indicators and the heartbeat LED tail lamps. The bold look is accentuated by its “tiger-nose grille” and turbo shaped front skid plates. The Sonet will be priced between Rs. 7-12 lakh. The GT Line trim is the sportiest trim on offer which will come with dominant red accents inside and high glossy black-grille with GT Line badging.
