Maruti Suzuki has started making its first-ever electric vehicle, the e Vitara, at its Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, India. The first batch of the e Vitara will soon be shipped to the UK, where it is already on sale starting at £29,999 (about ₹35 lakh). The company plans to export the e Vitara to over 100 countries, including Japan and many in Europe.
The launch event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Keiichi Ono, Ambassador of Japan. Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, said that this “Made-in-India” electric SUV is a big step for the company and for India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) mission. He also announced that Suzuki will invest over ₹70,000 crore in India over the next 5-6 years and will use a mix of electric, hybrid, ethanol, and biogas vehicles to reach carbon neutrality.
The e Vitara was first shown at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. Although production was supposed to start in May 2025, it was delayed for unknown reasons. Maruti Suzuki’s chairman, RC Bhargava, said that sales in India will begin before the end of September, with most of the 70,000 units produced this year set for export.

- 61 kWh battery: up to 428 km range (2WD), up to 412 km (4WD, dual motor, UK only)
The e Vitara is Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV, made in India for the world. It offers modern features, strong safety, and multiple powertrain options, aiming to make a mark in both Indian and global EV markets.
