One of the most exciting sports cars of the period, McLaren 720S has bagged another trophy to its tally of awards. This time, the auspicious Red Dot 2018 Award for Best of the Best Design was claimed the by car. It is the second time in a row that McLaren has been awarded for its outstanding design quality.
McLaren’s new design language with a dedication to aerodynamics principles and was singled out by the 40 international judges for its “innovative symbiosis of aesthetics and function”. Criteria for the competition, which is one of the world’s largest design contests, include innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics and durability. The 720S came triumph from a list of 6300 products from 59 countries for the ultimate Red Dot title in 2018.
McLaren 720S was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Since then, the car has received numerous awards and critical acclamation for its flawless design and depth of engineering innovation. In the UK alone, it was named EVO Car of the Year 2017, BBC TopGear Magazine Supercar of the Year 2017, BBC TopGear Magazine Performance Car of the Year 2017 and CAR Magazine Performance Car of the Year 2017. McLaren 720S also had a great reception in North America as well. There, the car went on and received numerous token of appreciation in the form of Road & Track 2018 Performance Car of the Year award, Car and Driver Magazine Editor’s choice, Du Pont Registry’s 2018 Car of the Year and also the fastest ever car tested by Motor Trend at their Willow Springs Raceway test facility. Moreover, the car was also titled as ‘Car of the Year at the Vehicle Dynamics International awards 2018’ for its ground-breaking dynamics and outright performance.
