Mercedes Benz officially revealed new generation of CLS yesterday at L.A Auto Show. The AMG versions are expected to follow soon. But among the AMG range, one model will get a new engine. Mercedes AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that the company is going to introduce CLS 53 with petrol-hybrid electric powertrain. The new AMG CLS 53 will be introduced at Detroit Motor Show in January.
The new 53 nomenclature will be used exclusive for AMG models and all these models will have petrol-hybrid powertrain and still below full blow AMG 63 models. The AMG CLS 53 is powered by 3.0 L straight six petrol engine with a 50 kw electric model with an combined output of 435 HP. But the higher torque output (not yet revealed the figure) from the electric engine will help AMG CLS 53 to match AMG CLS 63 performance. To improve efficiency of battery pack, Mercedes has given regenerative braking to charge the battery. This same engine will make its debut on E63 later in 2018.
Mercedes upcoming coupe sedan AMG GT Four will be placed above CLS. The AMG GT Four sedan is powered by 4.0 L V8 engines from AMG GT sports car series. The range topping GT Four sedan will be powered by 4.0 L V8 engine with electric engines to produce combine output of 811 BHP which will give mind-blowing numbers for the sedan when it arrive later next year.
