Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept Sets New World Records

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, a groundbreaking electric supercar that has set new world records for long-distance driving and fast charging. This concept car is a preview of the next generation of AMG’s high-performance electric vehicles, built on the new AMG.EA platform.

Record-Breaking Performance

At the famous Nardò test track in Italy, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX broke 25 long-distance records for electric vehicles. Most impressively, it covered 5,479 km (3,404 miles) in 24 hours—38% farther than the previous record. The car then went on to drive “around the world” (40,075 km or 24,901 miles) in just 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds, beating its own target of eight days.

Two GT XX cars ran together, each completing the challenge just 25 km apart, showing the reliability and endurance of the new electric powertrain.

Revolutionary Technology

The CONCEPT AMG GT XX uses three advanced axial-flux electric motors and a directly cooled high-performance battery. These motors are lighter, more compact, and about three times more powerful than regular electric motors. The battery, inspired by Formula 1, uses special cooling oil and new cylindrical cells for high energy and fast charging.

  • Peak Power: Over 1,000 kW (>1,341 hp)
  • Charging Speed: Over 850 kW (enough for 400 km of range in just 5 minutes)
  • Constant Speed: Maintained 300 km/h (186 mph) during the endurance run

Extreme Testing

The record run was tough: drivers kept the car at 300 km/h, stopping only for ultra-fast charging. The test lasted over a week, with drivers working in two-hour shifts, and the cars faced high temperatures and non-stop driving.

Teamwork and Support

A large team supported the effort, including pit crews, remote engineers, tire and charging specialists, and even Mercedes-AMG F1 driver George Russell, who praised the car’s instant response and endurance.

What This Means for the Future

The CONCEPT AMG GT XX proves that electric cars can deliver extreme performance, long-distance endurance, and ultra-fast charging. The technology will soon appear in AMG’s production electric cars, promising customers a true AMG driving experience—now fully electric.
