Auto Shanghai 2019 will host the premiere of the Mercedes-AMG A35 L, the 6-centimeter longer wheelbase variant of the international version of the compact performance sedan. The A35 L will be sold exclusively on the Chinese market.

The A-class Limousine that Mercedes-Benz has on the European sales lists, has a length of 4.5 meters and a wheelbase of 2.73 meters, equal to that of the hatchback. On the Chinese market, ‘extra legroom in the back’ is a strong selling point and so various brands offer longer versions of existing models, so Mercedes-Benz specifically developed the new AMG A35 L for this country. The A-Class Limousine in China, for example, is 4.62 meters long and also has a longer wheelbase at 2.79 meters. It is that extended A-Class Limousine that is now getting the famous A 35 treatment from AMG.

As expected, the main news for this version is the increase in wheelbase from 2729 to 2789 millimeters, so rear passengers will have an additional 6 centimeters for their knees. Otherwise, the Mercedes-AMG A35 L retains the design elements of the international version, with body elements inspired by the world of motor sports, more aggressive spoilers, more generous air intakes and a discreet rear wing.

Another change is that the model for China is equipped with 19-inch wheels, while they are only optional on the international version, which relies on standard 18-inch wheels.

Mercedes-AMG opted for the same engine as the international version. Just like in the European Mercedes-AMG A 35 L, we find a 306 hp and 400 Nm 2.0-liter turbo engine under the hood. The four-cylinder coupled to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission helps the sedan to reach a speed of 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds. The European variant is therefore 0.1 seconds faster. The top speed of the Chinese version is the same at 250 kmph.

The Mercedes-AMG A35 L will be produced by Beijing Benz Automotive, the joint venture that Daimler has in China with BAIC Motor. It is the first AMG version that will roll out from that production facility. The engine will be imported from the Kolleda plant in Germany.
