Michelin Launches Made-in-India Primacy 5 tyre for Sedans and SUVs

Michelin has launched the Primacy 5 in India, marking the debut of its first locally manufactured passenger car tyre for Indian customers. Designed for sedans, SUVs and electric vehicles, the new premium tyre promises improvements in safety, comfort, longevity and energy efficiency over its predecessor.

The Primacy 5 will be available across Michelin Tyres & Service outlets and around 800 authorised dealers nationwide from August 2026.

Made for Indian roads

Manufactured in India, the Primacy 5 has been developed and validated on vehicles commonly sold in the country.

Michelin says the tyre has been benchmarked against leading rivals and independently tested under Indian conditions, combining the brand’s latest global tyre technologies with local manufacturing expertise.

Improved safety and durability

The Primacy 5 focuses heavily on braking performance, particularly in wet conditions.

According to Michelin, the tyre delivers:

• Up to 8 metres shorter wet braking distance when new
• Up to 9 metres shorter wet braking distance when worn
• 4 metres shorter dry braking distance than leading competitors
• 8 percent longer tyre life than the outgoing Primacy 4ST

Michelin attributes these improvements to its EverGrip and EverTread technologies, which are designed to maintain grip throughout the tyre’s lifespan.

More comfort, better efficiency

The Primacy 5 also introduces a redesigned tread pattern aimed at reducing road noise and improving ride quality.

Michelin claims the tyre offers:

• 9 percent better ride comfort than competing tyres
• 6.5 percent lower rolling resistance than the Primacy 4ST

Lower rolling resistance can improve fuel efficiency in petrol and diesel vehicles while helping electric vehicles maximise driving range.

EV-ready

Michelin says the Primacy 5 has been engineered to handle the higher torque and additional weight associated with electric vehicles while remaining equally suitable for conventional petrol, diesel and hybrid models.

The tyre was also recognised as “Tyre of the Year 2025” at the Tyre Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence.
