New all-electric Skoda Citigo-E teased ahead of 2019 release

Skoda has confirmed that the all-electric Citigo-e will make its debut in Bratislava on 23 May, and this new official sketch reveals how it will look.

When it reaches the UK market later this year, the Skoda Citigo-e will offer a much-increased range over the current EV version of its sister vehicle, the Volkswagen e-up!.

Judging by the firm’s teaser image, the Citigo-e’s styling won’t change drastically over the conventionally-powered model. The most notable changes will be a blanked-off radiator grille and a smoother front bumper, as well as a new charging socket in place of the fuel filler cap. A set of aerodynamically-efficient alloy wheels are also likely.

Technical details are yet to be announced but Alain Favey, Skoda’s global head of sales and marketing, confirmed to Auto Express that the car will have a range of 300km (186 miles) thanks to a larger battery pack. He told us: “We have been waiting for the range to increase and at 300km, we think that’s acceptable range for our type of customers.”

When it goes on sale, the Skoda Citigo-e will have the largest fully-electric range in its class, offering around an extra 90 miles of range over the current e-up!. However, Skoda’s range advantage is unlikely to persist, as the improved battery tech will also find its way in the e-up! early next year.
