Mercedes-AMG has officially confirmed that its long-teased “Track Sport” prototype is a dual-purpose supercar project. The development program is producing two closely related machines: a next-generation GT3 race car and a street-legal GT Black Series serving as its homologation special.

The move marks a return to radical, motorsport-derived engineering for the Black Series sub-brand, positioned to sit significantly above the current GT 63 Pro flagship.

Track-Tested Hardware for the Street

The road-going Black Series variant (distinguished by yellow and green accents in teaser images) carries overt aerodynamic and mechanical influence from the GT3 program. Key visible hardware includes:

  • Aerodynamics: Front canards, a revised front splitter, and a massive swan-neck rear wing for maximum downforce.
  • Mechanicals: Center-lock wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and a distinctive side-exit exhaust system.
  • Configuration: Following Black Series tradition, the model is expected to be a strict two-seater with a stripped-back, driver-focused interior.

Powertrain: Pure V8 Performance

In a departure from the industry’s shift toward heavy hybridization, Mercedes-AMG appears to be sticking with a pure internal combustion setup to minimize curb weight.

While official technical specifications remain under wraps, the industry expects the following:

  • Engine: A twin-turbocharged V8, potentially utilizing a flat-plane crankshaft for higher rev limits and a distinct acoustic signature.
  • Output: The previous GT Black Series produced 720 hp. The new iteration is expected to surpass the 646 hp unconfirmed for the Mythos series. Most likely aiming for the 730–750 hp range to remain competitive in the supercar segment.
  • Transmission: A refined dual-clutch transmission tuned for track-day durability and lightning-fast shifts.

Market Positioning

The AMG One hypercar has completed its production run. The upcoming Black Series will take over as the most expensive and exclusive model in the Mercedes-Benz lineup.

The Competitive Landscape

Mercedes-AMG isn’t the only manufacturer pursuing this “road and race” duo strategy. Toyota is currently following a similar path with its upcoming GT3 racer and the street-legal GR GT. This trend highlights a commitment from performance brands to preserve large displacement. The high-performance engines for their most elite customers despite tightening global emissions regulations.
