The Nissan Magnite facelift has earned a full 5-star safety rating in the latest Global NCAP crash tests, joining a growing list of cars that meet high global safety standards.

This is a big improvement from its earlier scores. Back in February 2022, the Magnite (with only two airbags) had received 4 stars, but under the older, less strict crash testing rules.

New Test, Better Results

In 2025, Global NCAP tested the Magnite again — this time under the new and tougher protocol. At first, the updated Magnite (with six airbags and ESC) received 4 stars for both adult and child occupant protection.

But Nissan wasn’t fully satisfied with that. So, the company voluntarily sent an improved version of the Magnite for testing again. And this time, it scored 5 stars for adult protection, although the score for child protection dropped slightly to 3 stars.

What Changed?

While Nissan hasn’t officially shared what updates were made to the car, crash test data shows some important differences:

  • In the first test, driver’s chest protection was rated as weak, and knees had only marginal protection.
  • In the improved version, the driver’s chest got a ‘good’ protection rating, and knee protection was also better.
  • The car’s structure remained stable in both tests — a strong sign of solid build quality.

Child Safety: Why the Drop?

Although adult safety scores improved, child occupant protection dropped slightly:

  • For the 3-year-old dummy, the rear-facing child seat didn’t fully prevent the head from hitting the interior during a crash.
  • The 18-month-old dummy had better protection overall, but chest protection was a bit lower than the ‘good’ threshold.

In Numbers:

  • Adult Protection (Improved Version): 32.31 out of 34 (★ ★ ★ ★ ★)
  • Child Protection: 33.64 out of 49 (★ ★ ★)

The new Nissan Magnite facelift has taken a huge step forward in safety, proving its strength with a 5-star rating for adult safety in the latest crash tests. While there’s still room to improve for child protection, the Magnite is now one of India’s safest compact SUVs in its segment.
