Bringing the supreme technology of F1 Cars on the streets: Mercedes AMG Project One

Mercedes AMG’s dream of bringing the most efficient Formula 1 hybrid technology from the track to the streets is now becoming a reality. The two-seater Mercedes AMG Project One produces more than 1,000 horsepower with a top speed of 350 km/h. The Mercedes AMG Project One will combine stunning racetrack performance and practical Formula 1 hybrid technology with exemplary efficiency. Mercedes claims this project to be the Future of Driving Performance’.

The design elements found in the car are made with the simple concept of offering specific benefit for the overall benefit of the vehicle. The muscular proportions are based on the mid-engine concept. Everything from the cockpit to the large wheel arches indicate that the car is inspired by motorsports. The large black front spoiler with air inlets stretching across the entire width of the vehicle dominates the front view. Flat LED headlamps fit seamlessly into the body contours.  The dynamic roofline features an air inlet which elegantly fuses into the vertical shark fin. The exhaust pipe design with a large round outlet and two further small openings is based directly on that of the Formula 1 vehicles. The highly functional design gives the vehicle a striking, distinct character, unprecedented in this form.

The interiors are nothing short of an F1 inspired vehicle, the colors and materials chosen for the car are inspired from an F1 car. The ergonomically contoured interior with the two bucket seat pour out a simplistic yet innovative interior. So does the pedals and F1 styled steering wheel. The center tunnel visually separates the driver and the passenger areas and is a functional unit of the carbon-fiber structure. It blends well with the monocoque architecture. The seats unmistakably show association with motorsports.

Powering the car is a 1.6 liter V6 hybrid petrol engine with a total of four electric motors. One is integrated into the turbocharger, another is installed directly on the combustion engine with a link to the crank case ad the other two motors on the front two wheels. It is said to have a rear wheel drive output of 500 kW, the Drive system is a Variable AMG performance 4MATIC + all wheel drive with hybrid drive rear axle, electrically driven front axle and torque vectoring. The engine is mated to an Automated AMG SPEEDSHIFT 8-speed manual transmission. It clocks a 0-200 km/h in under 6 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h.
