Toyota Kirloskar Motor- ‘Behind the Scenes’ journey.

Toyota made its debut in India with their flagship utility vehicle ‘Qualis’ in the year 2000.However, the Toyota Kirloskar Motor(TKM) was established in 1997 and started their operations from their own-wards.

Here, the highlights of our TKM plant visit in Bidadi, Karnataka. We are honored to experience the making of Toyota products on the base of their tagline ‘Quality,Durability and Reliability’.The products were manufactured in a facility which stretches over 432 acres.They are literally divided into two:  the first plant is entitled to manufacturing the Toyota Innova and the Fortuner while the second plant produces the Etios line, Camry and Corolla. 

The TKM India witnesses the launch of Corolla in 2003 and Etios in 2010.Moreover, the debut of Innova in 2005 is a milestone in the Toyota story in India.Since its inception, the Innova is the best selling car in the brand’s marquee. The TKM plant dominating the production of its Innova and its elder brother the Fortuner.

Our visit started by watching the real-world training programmes conducted by Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI)  to its team of 64 students.They were intended to do their technical practice on real cars. In fact, which gives them better understanding on various production and maintenance aspects.

Safety is one of the key discipline in the TKM plant. The company has made a set of guidelines and instructions to enhance the safety on both plant and its dealerships.Also conduct awareness program to the outside world in terms of safety information.

The time consumed by cars in the workshops are become a curious things to most of customers. In order to give better customer experience,Toyota implemented the Express Maintenance which promises to service your car at an authorized dealership in 60 minutes or less at no extra cost. These ideologies are spread over 359 dealer networks across the country.Furthermore, the Service Express program  provides doorstep service to customers.

After concluding our visit, We got to experience the ‘Eco Park’ inside the plant facility. It comprises of 11 theme parks, 5 of them are still under construction. The Park is made up of fully recycled materials and it showcases Toyota’s love and respect for the environment. Moreover, the plant utilizes 87% of renewable energy to power its operations and also has solar panels installed in its premises.Also a portion of the facility is shared for growing vegetables and fruits.

In sum, Toyota has implemented a good business model in production,marketing and after-sales care of their products in order to give better customer experience while taking the care of nature into account.
