Scania G-Series and R-Series Earn Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

Scania’s G-series and R-series trucks have received five-star ratings in Euro NCAP’s haulage assessment, scoring 96% in crash avoidance. The results highlight the trucks’ driver-assistance systems, visibility, and safety technologies for long-haul and regional transport.

The assessment covered four configurations: the R-series 4×2 tractor and 6×2 rigid, along with the G-series 4×2 tractor and 6×2 rigid.

Crash Avoidance and Driver Assistance

Scania’s G- and R-series share a suite of driver support systems designed to improve safety and vehicle control across different transport applications.

Key technologies contributing to the 96% crash avoidance score include:

• Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB)
• Vulnerable Road User Brake System (VRUBS)
• Speed Sign Cruise Control (SSCC)
• Curve Speed Cruise Control (CSCC)
• Safe Stop Assist (SSA)

Euro NCAP also highlighted the R-series’ strong performance in Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance. Its optional camera monitor system improves front-corner visibility while reducing driver workload.

G-Series and R-Series: Safety Across Applications

The R-series was recognised for its broad range of crash avoidance technologies, including systems designed to help avoid collisions with vehicles, two-wheelers and pedestrians.

The G-series was described as a safe all-rounder when specified with suitable safety equipment. Its lower cab, deep windows and low belt line support direct visibility in mixed-traffic conditions.

Both series also received Euro NCAP’s City Safe Award. The results add to the five-star ratings Scania’s L- and P-series previously achieved.
