Tata Aeris Review: A Feature-Packed Compact Sedan

Tata has introduced the Aeris as a comprehensive update to its compact sedan, bringing a new platform, refreshed styling, and additional features. It retains the familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine while aiming to deliver a more premium experience at an accessible price.

Sharper Design

The Aeris gets a cleaner front end with LED headlamps, a blacked-out grille, and an integrated rear spoiler. Its metallic paint shifts shades in different light, while 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels add to the appeal. The design looks premium, although the changes over the Tigor are not dramatic.

Exterior highlights:

  • LED headlamps and daytime running lights
  • 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels
  • Integrated rear spoiler with LED stop lamp
  • 170mm ground clearance

A Feature-Rich Cabin

The cabin brings useful technology and comfort features, including a large touchscreen and ventilated front seats. The high-definition 360-degree camera can also function as a dashcam, making it a particularly useful addition.

Key features:

  • Digital driver display
  • 360-degree camera with dashcam functionality
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Cooled glovebox and wireless charging
  • Physical controls for key functions

However, the digital display graphics could be better, the steering wheel lacks telescopic adjustment, and there is no sunroof.

Refined, Not Sporty

Power comes from a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine producing 85hp and 113Nm. It feels refined during everyday driving, with vibrations reasonably well controlled. The smooth manual gearbox and clutch make city driving easy, but acceleration takes time to build.

Petrol or CNG?

Prices start at ₹5.29 lakh, according to the review. Tata claims 19 km/l for petrol and 28km/kg for CNG; these figures need real-world verification.

  • Petrol: Gets cruise control and is the stronger all-round choice.
  • CNG: Suits buyers prioritising lower running costs, but misses out on cruise control.

Verdict

The Tata Aeris combines clean styling, useful features and a refined engine at a competitive starting price. It is not aimed at enthusiastic drivers, but makes a convincing case as an affordable family sedan. The petrol version offers the more complete package, while the CNG variant is worth considering for buyers focused on running costs.
