Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), a part of Tata Motors, has officially re-entered the South African passenger car market. At a launch event in Johannesburg, Tata introduced four new models: the Harrier, Curvv, Punch, and Tiago. These cars are designed to meet the needs of South African drivers, offering modern design, strong safety, and advanced technology.
Partnership and Growth
Tata Motors is working with Motus Holdings, South Africa’s leading automotive group, to bring these cars to the market. TMPV has grown rapidly in India, selling over 560,000 units in 2025, up from 170,000 in 2020. All Tata models have high safety ratings, with 4 or 5 stars from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.
Dealer Network and Customer Support
Tata will start with 40 dealerships across South Africa, planning to expand to 60 by 2026. The company promises strong aftersales support, a wide dealer network, and a customer-first approach. Tata will also invest in local skills, job creation, and training for technicians and sales teams. Partnerships with financial institutions will help make Tata cars more affordable for South African buyers.
The Four New Models:
Tata Harrier:
A full-size SUV with a bold design, 2.0L turbo engine (125kW, 350Nm), and advanced safety features like six airbags and Level 2 ADAS. The cabin has a large touchscreen, wireless connectivity, and comfort features like ventilated seats and a power tailgate.
Tata Curvv:
A coupe-inspired SUV with a sporty look, 1.2L turbo petrol engine (88kW, 170Nm), and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. It offers a digital instrument cluster, mood lighting, and six airbags.
Tata Punch:
A compact SUV with a 1.2L petrol engine (65kW, 115Nm), smart tech, and wide-opening doors for easy access. It’s practical for city driving and has strong safety features.
Tata Tiago:
A compact hatchback with a 1.2L petrol engine (63kW, 113Nm), available in manual or AMT. It comes with a touchscreen, digital cluster, and safety features like ABS and dual airbags.
Tata plans to expand its model range and bring alternative energy vehicles to South Africa in the future, making sure customers have access to the latest in mobility and sustainability.
