Tesla Model Y Launched in India: Prices Start at ₹59.89 Lakh, Range Up to 622 km

After years of anticipation and delays, Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, marking its debut with the Model Y electric SUV and opening its first showroom in Mumbai. Speaking about the Model Y electric SUV, it comes with Two Variants, Two Battery Packs, let’s check them out.

Tesla is offering two variants of the Model Y in India:

  • Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): ₹59.89 lakh

  • Range: 500 km (WLTP)
  • 0-100 km/h: 5.9 seconds
  • Top Speed: 201 km/h
  • Battery: 60 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate)

  • Long Range RWD: ₹67.89 lakh
  • Range: 622 km (WLTP)
  • 0-100 km/h: 5.6 seconds
  • Top Speed: 201 km/h
  • Battery: 75 kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt)

Both variants maintain Tesla’s sleek and minimalistic design language with a coupe-style profile, flush door handles, and a clean, uncluttered look. At the moment, there’s no AWD or Performance variant on offer.

High-Speed Charging & Battery Tech

Tesla’s batteries support DC fast charging up to 250 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in under 30 minutes. Using Tesla’s Superchargers, drivers can expect to add up to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes.

The LFP battery in the base version offers good thermal safety and high energy efficiency, while the NMC battery in the Long Range trim provides extended range and performance.

Inside the Cabin

The interior is classically Tesla – futuristic and minimalist:

  • 15.4-inch touchscreen controls all vehicle functions (no instrument cluster)
  • Voice commands, OTA updates, and smartphone key access
  • All-glass roof, dual wireless chargers, automatic climate control
  • 7 airbags, 360° camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
  • Rear passengers get an 8-inch rear screen for controls and media

Booking Details

Customers can book the Model Y online or at the Mumbai showroom:

  • Initial booking amount: ₹22,220
  • Follow-up payment (within a week): ₹3,00,000

Six exterior colour options are available for Indian buyers.

Competing Rivals

The Tesla Model Y goes head-to-head with:

  • Hyundai Ioniq 5
  • Kia EV6
  • And entry-level premium EVs in the ₹60–70 lakh bracket

With its clean design, long range, high-tech cabin, and growing brand appeal, the Model Y positions Tesla as a serious player in India’s fast-growing premium EV space.
