VinFast has officially opened its new electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This marks a major step in VinFast’s global expansion and highlights the company’s long-term commitment to India, the world’s third-largest automobile market.
The Tamil Nadu facility is VinFast’s third operational plant and the first one outside Vietnam, showing the brand’s global ambitions and ability to deliver large-scale projects. Covering 400 acres, the plant features advanced production lines, automation, and modern technology. It includes workshops for bodywork, painting, assembly, quality control, and logistics, as well as an area for local contractors that will grow in the future.
At full capacity, the plant will create 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs and thousands more in the supply chain, helping boost the local economy and positioning Tamil Nadu as a manufacturing hub and potential EV capital of South Asia.
In its first phase, the plant will assemble two premium electric SUVs—the VF 7 and VF 6. The initial production capacity is 50,000 vehicles per year, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units annually as demand grows.
With this new plant, VinFast moves closer to its 2025 sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its long-term goal of producing 1 million vehicles per year by 2030. The company is committed to promoting sustainable mobility and a greener future in India and around the world.
Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, said, “The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant is a strategic milestone in our commitment to India. It gives us a strong foundation for growth and allows us to offer high-quality, competitively priced EVs to Indian customers. We plan to expand production to meet rising demand and make this facility VinFast’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. We are already receiving orders from several countries in these regions.”
VinFast Tamil Nadu will work closely with local suppliers, supporting supply chain localization, technology transfer, and workforce training. The plant is a key part of VinFast’s comprehensive EV ecosystem in India, which covers assembly, distribution, after-sales service, and recycling.
VinFast has also partnered with dealer groups in major cities and teamed up with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to build a strong digital services and after-sales network. The company is working with BatX Energies to promote battery recovery and reuse, supporting circular production and sustainable growth in India’s fast-growing EV market.
