After a long time of waiting, finally Volkswagen has officially launched its high-performance hatchback, the Golf GTI, in India. Known around the world as one of the best hatchbacks ever made, it should be noted that the Golf is now in its 8th generation. This new version has been fully imported into India, which is why it comes with a hefty price tag of Rs 52.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most expensive hatchbacks available in the country.
Volkswagen had earlier announced that bookings were closed after all 150 units in the first batch were sold out. However, the company plans to release another batch of 100 more units pretty soon.

The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0 -litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 265 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. The power goes to the front wheels through a 7 -speed Dual-Clutch (DSG) gearbox and is managed by an electronic locking differential. The car can attain 0 to 100 km/h speed in just 5.9 seconds.
In terms of aesthetics and looks, the Golf GTI has a sleek and sporty design. It gets stylish IQ LED headlights, a wide air intake with a honeycomb design, and X-shaped LED fog lamps. The side profile of the hot hatch has a sharp shoulder line and a flat roof ending in a sporty spoiler. It also has 8 -inch diamond-cut “Richmond” alloy wheels. At the rear, we can find sharp taillights and dual chrome-tipped exhausts.

Inside, the Golf GTI is loaded with features and tech. It includes a large 12.9 -inch touchscreen, a 10.25 -inch digital driver display, 30 -colour ambient lighting, three-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof etc. In case of safety, the hot hatch offers seven airbags and advanced features like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, emergency braking and a rear-view camera.
