Volkswagen has expanded the Tayron lineup in India with the launch of the new Life variant, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Sitting Rs 5 lakh below the flagship R-Line, the new trim swaps the third row for a five-seat layout while retaining the same powertrain and most of the premium features.

Interestingly, Volkswagen has adopted the same strategy as the new Skoda Kodiaq, offering a more affordable five-seat alternative alongside the fully-loaded seven-seater.

Same 2.0 TSI, same AWD

The Tayron Life continues with the same mechanical package as the R-Line.

Powertrain highlights:

  • 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
  • 204hp
  • 320Nm
  • 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox
  • 4MOTION all-wheel drive

Cleaner styling, fewer sporty bits

Without the R-Line package, the Tayron Life gets a more understated look.

Exterior highlights:

  • Revised front bumper with L-shaped grille elements
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Matrix LED headlights
  • Illuminated VW logo with LED light bar
  • Simpler rear bumper design

The SUV measures 4,792mm in length and continues with the same clean, European styling as the R-Line.

Almost fully loaded

The cabin remains largely unchanged, apart from the absence of the third row and R-Line badging.

Key features include:

  • 15-inch touchscreen infotainment
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Three-zone climate control
  • Ventilated, powered, and massaging front seats
  • Dual wireless chargers
  • 360-degree camera
  • Nine airbags
  • Level 2 ADAS

The only notable downgrade is the audio system, with the Life getting an 8-speaker setup instead of the R-Line’s 11-speaker Harman Kardon unit.

Final Take

The Tayron Life makes a lot of sense. It keeps almost everything buyers want, 204hp, AWD, and a long equipment list, while dropping the third row that many owners may never use. Much like the new Skoda Kodiaq Lounge, it’s the variant that will probably appeal to the widest audience.
