India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has officially entered the Indian electric vehicle market with the launch of the EC-06. Positioned as a premium urban commuter, the scooter arrives with a certified range of 169 kilometres and a design language that bridges Yamaha’s global aesthetics with local manufacturing requirements.
The Yamaha EC-06 is priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom) and will be sold exclusively through the brand’s premium Blue Square showrooms, starting with a phased rollout in select metro cities.
The EC-06 is powered by an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), a setup known for high efficiency and consistent power delivery. Unlike many hub-motor competitors, the EC-06 utilizes a mid-mounted motor configuration.
The scooter offers three distinct riding modes-Eco, Standard, and Power, allowing riders to prioritise either range or acceleration. It also features a dedicated Reverse Mode to assist with parking in tight urban spaces.
Developed on a platform shared with Bengaluru-based River Mobility, the EC-06 features a ruggedized chassis designed for Indian road conditions. It sits on 14-inch alloy wheels, which are larger than the 12-inch wheels typically found on segment rivals, providing better stability over potholes.
The EC-06 features a digital LCD instrument cluster that integrates with the “Yamaha Motor Connect R” smartphone application. This system provides riders with real-time data, including battery status, speed, and turn-by-turn navigation alerts. Lighting is entirely LED, featuring a vertically stacked headlamp design that distinguishes it from other scooters in the Yamaha portfolio.
At its price point of ₹1.67 lakh, the Yamaha EC-06 enters a highly competitive segment. It will go up against established players such as the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, and the River Indie.
While its top speed of 79 km/h is lower than some performance-oriented rivals, Yamaha is banking on its 169 km certified range and brand reliability to attract “eco-conscious trendsetters.” The battery comes with a standard warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km.
