Yamaha XSR155 Metallic Black Launched in India at ₹1.59 Lakh

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has expanded the colour palette of its neo-retro roadster, the XSR155, with the introduction of a new ‘Metallic Black’ paint scheme. The new variant is priced at ₹1,58,990 (ex-showroom) and aims to cater to buyers looking for a darker, more understated aesthetic within the premium commuter segment.

The XSR155 was initially launched in India in November 2025 and has since carved a niche among enthusiasts seeking Yamaha’s proven 150cc-class performance in a heritage-inspired package.

Design and Aesthetic Updates

The primary update for this new variant is strictly cosmetic. The Metallic Black shade drapes the motorcycle’s muscular teardrop fuel tank, minimalist side panels, and fenders in a deep, dark finish.

Providing a stark contrast to the blacked-out bodywork is a set of golden upside-down (USD) front forks, a treatment exclusive to a select few colourways in the XSR lineup. The visual package retains the signature retro elements, including a round LED headlamp, a circular LCD instrument cluster, and a single-piece “tuck and roll” seat.

Engine Specifications and Performance

Mechanically, the XSR155 remains identical to its stablemates. It is powered by Yamaha’s widely utilized 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, single-cylinder engine featuring Variable Valve Actuation (VVA).

• Peak Torque: 14.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
• Transmission: 6-speed gearbox equipped with an Assist and Slipper Clutch for lighter lever action and prevention of rear-wheel hop during aggressive downshifts.

The VVA technology ensures a balance between low-end tractability for city commuting and top-end performance on the highway.

Hardware, Chassis, and Safety

Underneath the retro styling, the XSR155 shares its core architecture with the R15 and MT-15. It is built around Yamaha’s high-rigidity Deltabox frame combined with an aluminium swingarm.

Suspension duties are handled by 37mm USD forks at the front and a linked-type monocross setup at the rear. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with wide, dual-purpose pattern tires (100/80 front and 140/70 rear).

For safety and rider assistance, the XSR155 comes standard with disc brakes at both ends, governed by dual-channel ABS and a Traction Control System (TCS), a premium safety net in the sub-200cc class.

Pricing and Market Context

With the introduction of the Metallic Black shade at ₹1.59 lakh, it sits at the top tier of the XSR155’s pricing bracket. The new variant allows the Yamaha XSR155 to strengthen its stance against rivals like the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, TVS Ronin, and the Honda CB350 RS.
