BMW Motorrad has unveiled the production version of the BMW F 450 GS, introducing a new mid-capacity adventure motorcycle into the heart of its iconic GS line-up. Designed to bring BMW’s hallmark GS attributes, versatility, control, and go-anywhere ability, to the growing A2 licence segment, the F 450 GS is positioned as an approachable, modern GS that prioritises both technical innovation and everyday usability.

At its core is a newly developed 420cc, parallel-twin engine producing 48 horsepower and 43Nm of torque, purpose-built for a balance of smooth performance and efficiency. Engineers have opted for a unique 135-degree crankpin offset and a single balance shaft, resulting in an unusually characterful engine tone and impressively low vibration. Fuel efficiency is strong, with a claimed consumption of just 3.8 litres per 100km, aided by a 14-litre fuel tank that offers a practical touring range in excess of 350km. Regular maintenance is set at 10,000km intervals, reinforcing BMW’s reputation for reliability.

One of the technical highlights of the new F 450 GS is the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), BMW’s centrifugal clutch, standard on the GS Trophy trim and available on others, which removes the need to manually operate the clutch lever when moving through gears or even in challenging off-road moments. Traditionalists need not worry, though; the clutch lever remains intact, ready for manual intervention when desired, ensuring riders retain maximum control in specific scenarios.

The F 450 GS is built around a lattice-tube steel frame for durability and precision. KYB provides the suspension components, delivering an upside-down telescopic fork up front and a hollow-cast aluminium swingarm at the rear, paired with a monoshock that benefits from progressive damping derived from BMW’s off-road racing exploits. Sport and Trophy versions get fully adjustable forks, catering to both road and trail ambitions.

True to GS tradition, the bike’s ergonomics strike a fine balance between comfort and control, with a riding triangle designed for easy manoeuvrability whether seated or standing off-road. Seat options range from a low 830mm saddle to a high Rallye alternative at 865mm, aiming to accommodate riders of various heights and riding intentions. Adjustable handlebars and foot controls further enhance adaptability.

The F 450 GS’s electronics suite is comprehensive for its class. As standard, riders have access to Rain, Road, and Enduro riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Brake Control, engine drag torque control, and cornering ABS. From the Exclusive trim onward, an Enduro Pro mode becomes available, allowing rear ABS deactivation for serious off-road riding. A large, clear 6.5-inch TFT display dominates the cockpit, offering all essential riding data, as well as smartphone integration for navigation, calls, and music. USB-C charging, LED lights, heated grips, and future options for windscreen styles and luggage systems round out the practical touches.

Wheel options start with cast aluminium rims suited to both asphalt and off-road, with cross-spoke wheels available as factory accessories. Brakes are by Brembo at the front, supported by ByBre at the rear, both tied into BMW’s ABS Pro for confidence-inspiring stopping power even when leaned over in a corner.

BMW is offering the F 450 GS in four trim levels: Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and GS Trophy. Each brings a slightly different flavour, from entry-spec versatility up to serious off-road intent in the GS Trophy, which also gets the centrifugal clutch and additional protection for rough ground.
While BMW hasn’t confirmed the exact launch date for India, the F 450 GS is expected to arrive by mid-2026, with an anticipated starting price in the ₹4.5–5 lakh range. The motorcycle will compete with similarly positioned midweight adventure bikes, appealing especially to riders seeking a blend of technological innovation and the all-conditions versatility for which the GS badge is renowned.
With a combination of clever engineering, safety features, and options for extensive personalisation, the BMW F 450 GS stands ready to redefine expectations in a segment that continues to attract both newer riders and seasoned adventurers.
