The Freelander 8 has made its global debut, marking the first production model from the new joint venture between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery. But despite the familiar name, this is not a new Land Rover; Freelander is now being positioned as a standalone premium brand.
And this isn’t a one-off. The Freelander 8 is expected to be the first of six new models, with more SUVs set to follow over the next few years.
A Big SUV, Not a Compact Freelander
Despite the badge, this is nothing like the old compact Freelander.
At 5.1 metres long, the Freelander 8 is actually larger than a Land Rover Defender 110, with space for up to seven occupants. It sits as the flagship of the new brand and looks aimed squarely at the premium large SUV market.

Styling has clear SUV toughness, with a few bits that may remind people of Land Rover products, even if this is a separate brand.
