Maruti Suzuki has officially inaugurated its new vehicle manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana, marking one of the company’s biggest milestones in India. The plant was inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum.
Spread across 800 acres, the facility has been built with an initial annual production capacity of 5 lakh vehicles, which will eventually double to 1 million units following a planned investment of ₹35,000 crore.
Among the World’s Largest Car Plants
Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility will become one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing plants and play a key role in Maruti Suzuki’s ambition of producing 4 million vehicles annually.
The project is also expected to generate over 21,000 jobs, further strengthening India’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
Built as A Smart Factory
The Kharkhoda plant has been developed around Suzuki’s Smart Factory concept and follows Industry 5.0 manufacturing practices.
Key technologies include advanced digital monitoring systems and human-aware collaborative robots (COBOTS), helping improve production quality, efficiency, and worker safety.
Focus on Sustainability
Maruti Suzuki has also placed significant emphasis on sustainability at the new facility.

The company says nearly two-thirds of the plant’s water requirement will be met through recycled water and rainwater harvesting.
Supporting Local Communities
Alongside manufacturing, Maruti Suzuki is investing in community development around Kharkhoda through education, healthcare, sanitation and infrastructure projects across 10 nearby villages.
The company is also expanding its Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) to train skilled workers, with over 2,600 students already trained.
