The curtain is finally coming down on one of motorcycling’s greatest supersports. Yamaha has confirmed that production of the iconic YZF-R6 will end soon, with the final order window closing on August 31, 2026.

End of an Era
First introduced in 1999, the Yamaha R6 became a benchmark in the 600cc supersport segment, earning a reputation for its razor-sharp handling, screaming inline-four engine and track-focused performance.

Although the road-going R6 was discontinued in 2021 due to stricter Euro 5 emission norms, Yamaha continued producing it as a track-only Race Base Model. That chapter is now coming to an end.
Final Chance to Own One
Yamaha Japan has announced two reservation windows for the final batch:
- July 1 – July 31, 2026
- August 1 – August 31, 2026
Deliveries of the last motorcycles will begin in February 2027. After that, no new R6s will be produced.
Built Purely for the Track
The R6 Race Base Model retains the same 599cc inline-four engine that made the original famous but ditches all road-legal equipment, including lights and number plates.

It also features:
- 599cc inline-four engine
- R1-derived front suspension and braking hardware
- Track-only specification
What About India?
The Yamaha R6 was never officially sold in India. That leaves the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R as the only Japanese 600cc supersport currently available in the country, priced at ₹12.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Final Take
Few motorcycles have defined the supersport era quite like the R6. Its departure marks the end of an icon that inspired an entire generation of riders. Thankfully, its high-revving soundtrack and legendary reputation will continue to echo around racetracks for years to come.
