Mahindra is expanding its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme across its entire Electric Origin SUV range, bringing the ownership model to the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9S and XEV 9e. The move is aimed at lowering the upfront cost of an EV by allowing customers to finance the vehicle and battery separately.

Lower Entry Costs for EV Buyers

Under BaaS, customers pay a lower upfront amount for the vehicle while the battery is financed separately through an effective usage-based cost.

  • BE 6 SPORTEQ: starts at ₹11.45 lakh + ₹3.75/km
  • XEV 9S: starts at ₹12.65 lakh + ₹3.75/km
  • XEV 9e: starts at ₹13.90 lakh + ₹3.75/km
  • BaaS is now available across all variants of the three SUVs

The dual-financing structure is designed to reduce the initial financial barrier while giving buyers more flexibility in managing their monthly expenses.

From One SUV to the Full Range

Mahindra initially introduced BaaS with the BE 6 SPORTEQ, where the programme received what the company describes as an overwhelming customer response. The expansion now brings the same ownership model to its flagship Electric Origin SUVs.

  • BE 6 SPORTEQ BaaS expanded across all variants
  • XEV 9S joins the programme
  • XEV 9e joins the programme
  • One ownership structure now covers Mahindra’s complete Electric Origin SUV portfolio

The move also reflects a broader shift in how EV manufacturers are approaching affordability. Instead of reducing the vehicle’s price alone, Mahindra is separating one of the most expensive components of an EV, the battery, from the initial purchase.

Making EV Ownership More Flexible

Mahindra says the expansion is driven by demand for ownership solutions that make EVs more accessible. By linking battery payments to usage, BaaS gives customers another way to approach the cost of switching to electric mobility.

Final Take

Mahindra’s BaaS expansion is less about adding another finance option and more about changing the way an EV is bought. With the programme now covering the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9S and XEV 9e, Mahindra is making its entire Electric Origin SUV portfolio accessible through a lower-entry-cost ownership model.
