Maruti Suzuki has crossed 35 lakh units in cumulative production of the Dzire, marking a major milestone for the sedan nearly 19 years after its introduction in India. Currently manufactured at the company’s Manesar facility, the Dzire joins the Alto, Swift and WagonR as the fourth Maruti Suzuki model to reach this production figure.
The Dzire was first launched in 2008 and has evolved through four generations, maintaining its popularity in both domestic and international markets.
A Strong Run in the Sedan Segment
The Dzire is currently India’s highest-selling passenger vehicle and has led Maruti Suzuki’s sedan segment for 19 consecutive years. It has also become the first sedan to receive a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.
Other key milestones include:
- April 2015: Crossed 10 lakh units in production.
- June 2019: Reached 20 lakh units.
- December 2024: Crossed 30 lakh units.
- October 2026: Surpassed 35 lakh units.
Interestingly, while the first 10 lakh units took seven years and three months to produce, the most recent 10 lakh units were completed in just four years and four months.
Latest Generation Gets More Features
Launched in November 2024, the latest Dzire features updated styling, two-tone interiors, new technology and improved fuel efficiency.
Its recently introduced automatic S-CNG variant is claimed to be India’s most fuel-efficient sedan, delivering 36.47 km/kg.
The Dzire was also among Maruti Suzuki’s top five exported models during FY2025-26, highlighting its acceptance in international markets.
Final Take
Crossing 35 lakh units shows how the Dzire has remained relevant in a market increasingly dominated by SUVs. Its combination of practicality, efficiency and affordability has helped it maintain a strong position over nearly two decades. With the latest generation adding more features and safety credentials, the Dzire’s journey appears far from over.
