The Volvo EX90 is the brand’s new electric flagship SUV, combining Scandinavian design with a dedicated EV platform, three-row practicality and Volvo’s latest safety technology. We drove the EX90 in India to see how it performs on our roads.
Design
The EX90 has a clean, understated design with an EV-specific closed-off front end. Its proportions give it plenty of road presence without making it look overly aggressive.

Interior and Technology
The cabin follows Volvo’s minimalist philosophy, with a large 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen serving as the main interface. The materials feel suitably premium, with Nappa leather, light wood and a panoramic roof adding to the luxury ambience.
The equipment list includes:

- Google services and Gemini
- Bowers & Wilkins audio system
- 25 speakers and 1,610 watts
- Dolby technology
The minimalism works well visually, although the heavy reliance on the touchscreen means some functions require more interaction than traditional physical controls.
Space and Practicality
Our test car featured the six-seat configuration, with individual captain’s chairs in the second row. This makes the middle row particularly comfortable while leaving access to the third row relatively convenient.
The third row can accommodate adults for shorter journeys and should work well for children. With all three rows occupied, boot space is around 200 litres, so luggage capacity is limited.
Performance and Range
The EX90 uses a twin-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing around 486 hp. Despite its size, it feels remarkably quick when required.

- Air suspension
The EX90’s character is more about effortless performance than outright sportiness. Its air suspension does a good job of absorbing rough surfaces, while the quiet electric powertrain and strong insulation make long journeys particularly relaxing.
Safety
Safety remains a major focus, with the EX90 offering Level 2 ADAS. The systems worked effectively during our drive. However, the India-spec SUV does not get the radar and LiDAR hardware offered on some international versions.

Verdict
The Volvo EX90 makes a strong case as a luxury electric family SUV by prioritising comfort, refinement, space and safety over outright aggression. The quiet cabin, capable air suspension and strong performance suit its flagship positioning, while the six-seat layout adds practicality. Its final competitiveness in India will ultimately depend on its pricing.
