BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new F 450 R, a lightweight naked motorcycle developed for the European A2 licence category. Based on the F 450 model family, it gets a road-focused chassis, a parallel-twin engine, and styling inspired by the larger BMW S 1000 R.

The motorcycle weighs 175kg ready to ride and produces 48hp, placing it in the middleweight entry-level segment. BMW has not announced India launch details or pricing.
420cc Parallel-Twin Engine
The F 450 R uses a newly developed 420cc parallel-twin engine. It produces 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm at 6,750rpm. BMW says 80% of the available torque is accessible from 3,000rpm.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox and an X-ring chain. Shift Assistant Pro enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts, although it is not standard on the base variant. An optional Easy Ride Clutch automatically engages the clutch based on engine speed.
Chassis, Brakes and Electronics
The motorcycle uses a tubular steel frame with the engine acting as a load-bearing element. Suspension duties are handled by a 43mm KYB USD fork and a rear KYB monoshock, with adjustable damping available on the Sport Suspension setup.
Braking hardware includes a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston calliper and a 240mm rear disc. ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Brake Control and engine drag torque control are standard, alongside Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes.
Features and Variants
The F 450 R gets full-LED lighting, heated grips, a 6.5-inch TFT display with navigation and smartphone connectivity, and a USB-C port. Its standard seat height is 790mm, with optional 775mm and 810mm seats.

Four variants will be offered:
- Base: Cosmic Black.
- Exclusive: Adds Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension.
- M Sport: Adds Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension.
- M Sport with Innovation Package: Includes the Easy Ride Clutch.

Final Take
The BMW F 450 R combines accessible power with a relatively low kerb weight and a comprehensive electronics package. Its positioning makes it a compact alternative to larger naked bikes, though pricing and market availability will determine how it fits into individual markets.
